With the next edition of the Western Derby about to be played out, let's go back in time and remember some of the past great performances.

There's been some absolute standouts!

Triple M Footy is live for what will likely be the last Derby at Domain Stadium from 2pm this Sunday.

Ilija Grgic - Western Derby V (Round 13, 1997)

Remember Ilija?

He was picked up by the Eagles as a Footscray discard after four seasons and played ruck.

He had a few back dramas that ruined his career, along with a positive test to a banned substance which ended up being cough medicine.

But on this day he was not to be stopped!

He dominated around the midfield, picked up 18 disposals, kicked a goal... was crowned an Eagles hero (even if it was just for one day).

And he was never to spoken of ever again...

Fraser Gehrig - Western Derby VII (Round 13, 1998)

Of the six seasons Fraser played at West Coast, 1998 was his best with 42 goals off half forward.

And this Western Derby was by far his best.

16 disposals, 12 marks, 5 goals... dominant!

It was part of a great purple patch for Gehrig in the first half of the season, before injuries started to take a toll.

West Coast 14.10 94 def. Fremantle 10.7 67

Tony Modra - Western Derby X (Round 16, 1999)

Yes, "Godra" turned it on at Subiaco Oval for the Purple Army.

And it is a day many Freo fans cherish - the first time they beat the "big brother".

So why not do it in style - Tony Modra booting six goals, including one of the most memorable Derby goals from the boundary while Eagles defender Ashley McIntosh tried to run him down.

Scott Cummings - Western Derby XI (Round 6, 2000)

Look, this was a total and utter blowout on this day.

The big headline was to see if Eagles full-forward Scott Cummings would get to 10 goals.

And he delivered in spades!

Over his 128 game career and span of four clubs, Cummings would only reach double figures twice - both at West Coast and both in the space of just a fortnight.

It's the best goal-kicking performance in a Derby and has never really been challenged.

West Coast 28.10 178 def. Fremantle 9.7 61

Clive Waterhouse - Western Derby XII (Round 21, 2000)

Yes, we're talking about the Demolition Derby. You know - this one

Post

Fremantle trailed by as much as 42 points during the third quarter and could have easily have been over-run.

Step up one of the most unpredictable footy players of Fremantle's history - Clive Waterhouse.

He'd kick three goals in the third quarter, two in the final quarter and help the Dockers storm home to a memorable one point win.

Paul Hasleby - Western Derby XVIII (Round 22, 2003)

For someone who has won 4 Ross Glendinning Medals for best on ground in the Derby, it's hard to choose his best.

But we've gone with a performance where he didn't add to his medal tally, but kicked the winning goal.

45 seconds left, 50 metres out, down by a point... step up Hase!

Meanwhile, Chris Judd won the Ross Glendinning Medal that day. The Freo crowd weren't fans of that decision...

Fremantle 14.12 96 def. West Coast 11.16 82

Hayden Ballantyne - Western Derby XXXII (Round 18, 2010)

Full credit to the Docker that many Eagles fans love to hate!

The small forward had a day out, kicking six goals and helped Freo to their biggest Derby win in history.

But it's not just the goal tally. It's also the fact he did it with a broken bone in his foot!

Fremantle 24.16 160 def. West Coast 13.7 85

Matthew Pavlich - Western Derby XXXVI (Round 19, 2012)

This guy was and always will be, one of the best Dockers to grace the field.

On this day he was completely unstoppable in probably the best performance in the Derby - 8 goals, 24 disposals,

15 contested possessions and 6 marks inside 50.

Fremantle 17.11 113 def. West Coast 6.12 48

Josh Hill - Western Derby XLII (Round 20, 2015)

It was a big day for West Coast - because they wanted to make sure the Dockers weren't going to even the ledger at 21 wins apiece.

And they did so with a 7 goal to 1 opening quarter.

But it was Josh Hill's final quarter when Freo were on the charge back that got him the best on ground, but also the love of the Eagles fans.

Stand out game from Josh!
