There's been plenty of talk about the Suns co-captain, who is out of contract and could court a move home to Victoria at the end of the season.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has already floated the suggestion his club could be in the mix, saying "you've got to have a look" at recruiting players of his quality.

But Clark believes it's Hawthorn who could put up the biggest fight.

“He’s obviously the man of the moment, Richmond have come out throughout the week and signalled their interest in him,” he said on Triple M's Dead Set Legends on Saturday morning.

"I think Hawthorn is the sleeping giant here."

Clark thinks Hawthorn could deviate from their pay structure to spend the dollars necessary to get him.

"I know they haven’t paid their players or their recruits that much, sort of seven hundred (thousand) or under for (Tom) Mitchell, (Jaeger) O’Meara, that sort. Clarko’s been very structured on that," he said.

"I think for Tommy Lynch the Hawks could offer him that bigger money probably that he needs.

"I think they’re able and willing to go out of their disciplined pay structure to get him."
