St Kilda legend Leigh Montagna says that the Saints’ list needs a “fresh pair of eyes” amidst upheaval at the club.

The Saints have struggled badly this season, garnering just a win and a draw from their first 12 matches, and yesterday parted ways with long time list manager Tony Elshaug.

Speaking on his show Dead Set Legends with Jay Clark this morning, Joey said that supporters should look at the change as a positive.

“The supporters have gotta look at this as a positive, that we’ll get a new list manager, I think a fresh set of eyes to take a look at this list and assess where it’s at and the strategy of the list management,” Joey said.

“If you look at the draft this year, it’s a super draft and we’ve got pick three and then not until nearly pick 60.

“So there needs to be some change obviously, when you’re underperforming like St Kilda is.”

Joey also said that the drafting hasn’t been a success.

“Last night after I heard that Tony Elshaug was gonna move on, I had a look at the last eight drafts since 2010 and 42 players have come in through the trade or the draft,” he said.

“I gave 17 ticks… 17 out of 42.

“So there’s probably not enough there.”

Joey’s comments came as part of a larger discussion about where the Saints are at, including a chat about how much the Saints are missing him and Nick Riewoldt.
