Former Saint Justin Koschitzke is one of a group of 28 bike riders undertaking a trip from Sydney to Melbourne in an effort to bring attention to the issue of suicide.

Kosi is tackling the 1,433km 2018 Puka Up Bike Ride with Puka Up CEO — and Triple M’s own — Wayne Schwass.

The event aims to create a national conversation about prevention of suicide, which claimed 2,866 lives in 2016.

Listen to Kosi explain the 2018 Puka Up Bike Ride here:

“Schwatta’s (Wayne Schwass) company Puka Up launched this, we’re going 1,433kms which is half of the 2,866 lives that were lost to suicide in 2016,” Kosi said.

“It’s more than double the road toll. It just doesn’t get the awareness.

“Out there, the general public it has a stigma about it, guilt, shame, remorse, whatever you want to talk about it.

“The amount of lives lost is just staggering.”

The Puka Up riders will deliver six community forums in conjunction with the Black Dog Institute, which they say “are valuable opportunities to be able to share practical skills, tips and advice with audiences that will help local communities begin to be able to start conversations about suicide prevention and importantly, help a loved one who might be suicidal”.

The eight day event will go on the following route:

It starts on March 16 and wraps up on March 23.

3 March 2018
