AFL Coaches Association chief Mark Brayshaw says Fremantle isn't the only club to have sounded out the availability of James Hird.

LISTEN TO THE AUDIO:

Fremantle confirmed on Friday night Hird was one of many candidates for a part-time opposition analysis role at their club, based in Melbourne.

Brayshaw said on Saturday morning the news was great, believing Hird has plenty to offer.

“I think it’s great," he told Dead Set Legends Perth.

“The Dockers aren’t the only club who’ve sounded Hirdy out. Why wouldn’t you? I mean, he’s obviously got a bit to offer and I think it’s wonderful."

Brayshaw said the possibility of Hird returning to football was pleasing, noting Nat Fyfe was excited.

"If it goes anywhere, great, but I read Nathan Fyfe’s response and he was cautious about the club’s going to make the decision," he said.

"You could just sense the glee in him to be able to have James Hird on his team, then he sort of backed away a little bit, understandably."

"It’s fantastic. It’d be great for any club that gets him, and if he ends up at Freo and helps my son (Andrew), wonderful!"
