This morning, Ewan chatted to the CEO of Mt Gambier City Council, Mark McShane, about the Mayors Christmas Appeal and the upcoming council elections.

The Mayors Christmas Appeal relies solely on the support of local donors, with 100% of the funds distributed to those within our community who need it most. Last year, the appeal assisted 440 families, including 753 adults, 152 teenagers, and 500 children with Christmas hampers, vouchers and gifts.

“The Mayors Christmas Appeal is specifically focused on those for whom maybe don’t have everything we might expect or desire at Christmas time. So… we’re of course looking for people to provide some donations into that so that we’re able to support as a community, the others in our community who aren’t tracking as well as others.”

- Mark McShane

Mr McShane explained that all funds raised go to “support agencies who provide immediate and direct support into our community”.

Ewan also brought up the upcoming council elections that will be held in November. Voting will be optional and by post.

And if you’re interested in being nominated to be a council member, applications will be open from the 4th – 18th September. For more information head to the council website, and listen to Ewan’s chat below!
