This morning Ewan was joined by the President of the Pioneers Basketball Club, Tom Kosch, following their denied application to compete in the Big V.

The future of the Club has been uncertain ever since Basketball Australia (BA) announced the organisation would abandon its administration of SEABL in mid-August.

Despite support from both Basketball Australia and the Big V's Senior Representative Commission, the Club's application to compete was ruled out by The Board of Basketball Victoria, who advised that they didn't want to change the statewide By-Laws to accept non-Victorian affiliated entity into their state league competition.

We're hugely disappointed. We haven't given up the fight, but our options are extremely limited and we're just doing all we can to preserve the Pioneers... with a name we can advance to a higher competition at some point.

- Tom Kosch

Tom stated that as a board, they are faced with the realisation that "a sustainable and suitable competition for [the] basketball club may not exist".
