Member for McKillop Nick McBride talks to Ewan about Fracking On The Limestone Coast

On Friday, Ewan chatted to Member for McKillop Nick McBride about fracking on the Limestone Coast.

What is fracking? Great question!

According to BBC News, it’s “the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside”.

If you’re still confused, have a listen to Ewan’s chat with Nick below...

They also talk about the controversy surrounding fracking within the government and community. At one point in the interview, Ewan asked Nick if he believed the other cabinet members realised why it was such an issue for people on the Limestone Coast.

Nick responded:

“They’re trying to take a balanced approach. They don’t want to seem to be anti-developmental; they don’t want to be seen to actually be fighting the mining industry on everything. They want to be seen to be a government that does business. But on the flipside, they have to balance this with community sentiment, community fears and risks. And I think that’s the bit they’ve just missed down in this region.”
