The new Stars Wars movie "The Last Jedi" dropped in cinemas at midnight and I can say with a hand over my heart, that was one of the most exciting movies I've seen in a VERY long time. In fact, I will say it rivals my all-time favourite movie in the franchise "The Empire Strikes Back."
But here's the kicker - it's not like your normal sci fi or Star Wars movie - it's so much more than that! Sure, you get all the action, excitement & fight scenes you expect from the series. But the most surprising thing (and trust me, there's a LOT of surprises) is the amount of light relief comedy thrown in. Plenty of gags , some awesome scenes, and fantastic storytelling like the original 3 Star Wars movies made.
Now, without giving a spoiler away - yes, there a HUGE homage to A New Hope & The Empire Strikes Back. And you can definitely see a same-same, but different vibe going on. The plight of the Rebel Alliance is on a knife edge, and the struggle between the light and dark side simmers underneath bad guy Kylo Ren (Darth Vader's grandson). Luke Skywalker returns, but he plays a support role to the new kid on the block Rey.
And something nobody in the cinema expected - it blew us all away when ***************************** (spoiler filter kicked in - edit police).
Look, I could go on and on for hours. Dissecting each little moment and nuance. But if you can't get to the movies for a day or two here's a fan film the Star Wars fans (including me) filmed a few weeks ago in preparation for the midnight screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
