Santo Cilauro believes an A-League deal for Usain Bolt "slightly smells of desperation" from the FFA.

LISTEN TO SANTO:

Cilauro joined Kennedy Molloy on Tuesday afternoon and was quizzed about the stunning story that could see Bolt land at the Central Coast Mariners.

So Mick Molloy asked him if the deal would work.

"I don't think so," he said.

Cilauro believes it's a last resort from the FFA to try and land a marquee player after options like Fernando Torres were missed out on.

"The thing is that it’s not going to be done unless the FFA have to kick in $900,000. There's a $3 million marquee player fund," he explained.

"It slightly smells of desperation, because they've been trying to get some big name players...and they're left with nobody. All their marquee players have gone."
