Anytime Fitness Erina, Wyoming, The Entrance, Woy Woy, Kincumber and West Gosford hosts the 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge to support Suicide Prevention Australia.

These Anytime Fitness clubs on the Central Coast are asking all their club members and the local community to put their fitness to the test in support of Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA). To take part, the largest gym franchise in Australia is urging people to sign up to their 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge on the 25th and 26th of May.

Over 250 Anytime Fitness clubs in Australia will be involved in the campaign, with the aim of raising $500,000 for SPA to help create a community that knows how to ask for help and give help. Members and the general public are asked to nominate themselves for a slot of either 15 minutes or more, depending on their fitness.

“We would like the whole community to unite and take part in raising awareness for this very important cause. Anytime Fitness is involved in the 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge for Suicide Prevention Australia because it is a cause very dear to our hearts.

The statistics will astonish you

  • The number of people who take their own lives in Australia is more than double the national road toll…
  • In 2015 3,027 Australians died from suicide, that is approximately 8.3 Australians per day.
  • Men make up for 75% of the suicides.
  • There are an estimated 65,000 suicide attempts each year
  • It is estimated that 370,000 Australians think about taking their life each year

We are especially concerned that the highest suicide rate is amongst men aged 18-34 years old, which is the key age group of our members,” Suicide is also the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 18-44 years and that more people die from suicide than road accidents or skin cancer.

By taking part, the participating Anytime Fitness clubs hope to raise at least $2,500 per club to contribute to the overall target, to help SPA provide support, advice and information so people don’t feel alone.

To get involved, you can sponsor someone in their fundraising efforts or register yourself for the 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge by visiting your local participating Anytime Fitness club or click here for more information
