The NRL world is all talking about Shane Flanagan’s epic meltdown towards the referees after Cronulla’s shock loss to North Queensland yesterday.
The reigning premiers were knocked out of the finals in week one and their coach was not happy, bring in a sheet of paper with incidents from the game written down on it.
Queensland NRL legend Gorden Tallis joined Triple M Breakfast in Brisbane this morning, telling Marto, Robin and Lawrence Mooney that the Sharks got what they deserved.
“It’s karma,” Tallis said.
“Before the game they were calling North Queensland a pack of whinges.”
Tallis thinks Flanagan’s outburst should cost Cronulla a hefty fine too.
“He would have had to go and clear it with the CEO and probably the chairman and say ‘I’m going to have a spray’,” Tallis said.
“Because that’s probably cost Cronulla over $30,000."
When asked if he was certain the Sharks will cop three $10,000 fines for Flanagans outburst, Tallis put the emphasis squarely on NRL CEO Todd Greenberg.
“If Todd Greenberg has intestinal fortitude, yes.”
Tallis felt that Flanagan had more than enough time to think about his post-match press conference, and that the hotheaded coach knew exactly what he was doing.
“It’s not straight after the game,” Tallis reflected.
“He’s not on the sidelines - it was 30 minutes after the game.
“He would have gone to the powers that be and ticked it off.”
