AFL Considering League-Wide Reserves Competition
To come in next season.
The AFL is reportedly considering implementing a league-wide reserves competition next season.
Triple M footy's Damian Barrett broke the news on The Footy Show last night, and he joined Triple M Adelaide's Roo and Ditts this morning to elaborate more on it.
Barrett said the idea of the reserves league was first suggested by the AFL at the club presidents/CEOs gathering in Melbourne on Wednesday.
"It's a work in progress, but the AFL is clearly going down the path of adding a reserves competition," Barrett told Roo and Ditts.
"There's a potential for all 18 teams in the AFL effectively forming a a secondary competition underneath them.
"That would allow for curtain raisers and for the AFL to trial certain rules."
If implemented, the reserves competition would be one of a number of changes earmarked by the AFL for the 2019 season, including a mid-season draft and a mandatory extended break for everyone involved within the AFL over December and January.
