Sad news for SA this morning, as Coca-Cola has announced that it will close the doors of it's Thebarton factory by 2019.

Roo & Ditts spoke to Mike Smithson from Channel 7 who was live from the factory.

"Very bad news in the long term, the ASX has just been informed by Coca-Cola that it will be closing it’s operations here in Adelaide by 2019."

How many jobs will be affected?

"We’re talking about 150, now some of those are casual employees obviously. Workers who were expecting the worst, it doesn’t come straight away, but it is coming."

In a statement to the ASX, Coca-Cola Amatil said the closure of the Thebarton facility would deliver the company a further $20 million in cost savings from 2020.

According to The Advertiser, even though the Thebarton plant is closing, the company’s distribution centre in Salisbury, which employs up to 100 staff will not be closed.

Existing sales, warehousing, equipment servicing and recycling teams in SA will also not be affected.
