"It Was An Awkward Conversation"

Port Adelaide big man Jackson Trengove joined Triple M Adelaide this morning for his regular segment with Roo and Ditts and spoke to the boys about being axed from the Power side to face Collingwood last Sunday.

Trengove, so much an integral part of the Power side both on and off the field over the last few seasons, revealed to Triple M that he had an idea he was on the chopping block early on in the week, but that didn't make his axing, the first of his career, any easier.

“It was a pretty honest discussion,” Trengove admitted, “and obviously one that I wanted to have.”

“It caught me a little by surprise, but we spoke earlier in the week and I knew where he was at with the selection, so I knew I was a fair chance not to play.

“I had a couple of days where I was pretty angry and I just had to get myself back into the right mental space and was able to go out and play a really good game for the (Port Adelaide) Magpies on the weekend.”

Trengove was honest in saying that he hasn't recovered his stellar form from 2016, and that he was still adapting to his new role as a pinch-hit ruckman now that Paddy Ryder has returned from his 12-month suspension.

“There’s probably a couple of areas I needed to work on which Ken was very honest with,” Trengove revealed.

“I haven’t been able to find that form in the ruck I had last year.

“I haven’t had as much time in there, obviously having Paddy Ryder back, who’s one of the best ruckman in the league.

“So it’s probably just a balance for me, being able to go forward and impact and then go into the ruck and do my job."
