Legendary cricket commentator Kerry O’Keeffe has picked a candidate from left field to replace outgoing Cricket Australia chairman David Peever.

LISTEN HERE:

“I’ll tell you who should be [in the frame for the role as chairman], and I think they should bring him in: Simon Katich,” Skull said on Roo & Ditts.

“I know he’s got no business acumen, but he’s strong, he sees the players as assets.

“If he gets the right Chief Operating Officer next to him, Katto can do a job.

“Everywhere he goes — GWS Giants, Trinbago Knight Riders won the Caribbean Premier League — everybody in that squad said Simon Katich was the reason… this guy has gravitas.”

Peever resigned from the role of chairman yesterday after pressure for changes following the Longstaff Review that was scathing of the culture at CA.

Peever had signed a three-year contract to remain in the role just last week.

Former Cricket Victoria director Earl Eddings — the interim chairman — is the front runner to take over in the role.
