He’s a true AFL champion of his time and continues to dominate as coach of West Adelaide, leading the club to a premiership in 2015, ending a 32-year drought. Sadly, Mark Mickan has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

His football club, The Bloods, posted a statement earlier this week, explaining that he will continue his role as senior coach for West Adelaide.

“The West Adelaide Football Club wishes to advise its members and the broader football community that Senior Coach Mark Mickan has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Mark and the club will continue the work they have been doing with specialists on the management of his condition to ensure the best outcome from a health perspective.

He will continue in the role of Senior Coach of the WAFC with the support of the extended coaching department and the club.”

The Bloods’ players players were told the news of Mark’s diagnosis at training last Thursday and the support from not only the club but fans and supporters, has been overwhelming.

Mark joined Roo & Ditts to ask how he was and to explain exactly what this means for him.

We wish Mark all the very best.
