Police in Philadelphia have taken the weird precautionary measure of greasing up every light pole in the city in case of crazy Super Bowl celebrations.

The Philadelphia Eagles take on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl today, and in the (very rare) case their team claim victory, Philly police stocked up on grease from Costco to stop fans putting themselves in a dangerous position by climbing light poles.

Speaking to Roo and Ditts on Triple M Adelaide this morning, mad Eagles fan E-Rock said that Philly police learned their lesson after the city's last major sporting victory.

Post

"The last time Philadelphia experienced a championship was in 2008 with the Philadelphia Phillies," E-Rock said.

"The police force, who were inexperienced in winning championships, was a little under prepared...and we climbed the poles.

"Everybody thought drunkenly and haphazardly to climb up these things (light poles) and take photos.

Post

"So this year they're greasing the poles so if people try to climb them; they'll slip right back down.

"They're literally greasing the poles with cooking grease."
