Ramping has become a serious issue in Adelaide, with hospitals struggling to accomodate patients being transferred by ambulance, according to the South Australian Ambulance Union.

Up to 18 ambulances were ramped, meaning waiting to transfer their patient into a hospitals care, outside of Royal Adelaide Hospital on Monday night, a number that Phil Palmer from the Ambulance Union said was a record number for the State.

Yesterday, Phil Palmer joined Roo and Ditts on Triple M Adelaide breakfast to shed light on the worrying issue, saying that it "very, very rarely happened at the old Royal Adelaide Hospital", and that the design of the new RAH was the main cause of the ramping that is happening right now.

"It might of happened once or twice in ten years," Palmer said.

"It's every day (at the new RAH). It's happening right now."

This morning Premier Steven Marshall told Roo and Ditts that the government is addressing the issue.

"The situation is completely and utterly unacceptable," Marshall said.

"We know that in the government and we're working on a way to quickly ease the congestion that exists within our emergency departments."
