The story on everyone's lips, ears and eyes is the ball tampering fiasco surrounding the Australian cricket team in South Africa.

Vice captain David Warner and opening batsman Cam Bancroft are all currently facing sanctions from Cricket Australia, while captain Steve Smith has been banned from playing in the fourth test by the International Cricket Board.

Warner and Smith have had their captaincy stripped for time being, and it looks as though it will stripped on a permanent basis, along with more sever sanctions from CA.

Access to the playing group has been limited since Bancroft and Smith fronted the media when the tampering issue first surfaced, but Channel 7 journalist Robert Ovadio managed to get a word with Smith, and he joined Roo and Ditts on Triple M Adelaide this morning to elaborate.

"I spoke with Steve Smith - it was a pretty one-sided conversation," Ovadio told Triple M.

"He wasn't answering questions and I felt a little awkward for him, he was behind his sunglasses.

"I asked him if he was allowed to speak and hi response was almost like a shudder, almost like he was going to start crying.

"The pressure on him of it all...look at what this man was a week ago and then now; he's absolutely shattered."
