British man Colin Powis has detailed his incredible story about running into Ivan Milat during the height of his backpacker murders.

LISTEN TO THE CHAT:

Powis joined Roo and Ditts to tell his story about running into Milat, after recognising him from a documentary back in the UK.

"I was just lying in bed watching a documentary on what was called the Backpacker Murders," he told Triple M Adelaide.

"I recognised the photograph of Milat, and I thought uh oh, I've seen that, I've seen him before."

He explained he'd been in the country for about "48 hours" when he ran into him.

"He never did say hello, he just said 'get in'," he explained.

"Then he said 'put your seatbelt on', and I did. When I closed the door, he said 'put that button down' on the door.

"Who says that to an adult?"
