He's the only man who has successfully left the Mob, the highest order of the Mafia, in New York. Last time we had Michael Franzese on the show, we had amazing feedback on having him on Triple M.

Today, we’ve got some fantastic news that has come to us only a couple of days ago, that his dad (John 'Sonny' Franzese) who he spoke to us about on many occasions, has just been released from prison at the age of 100.

He served 40 years in jail and up until last week, was the oldest person in the US prison system.

Roo & Ditts were able to get an interview with him this morning to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Ditts asked, "What has the last few days been like for you and your family?"

Michael: "It’s hard to describe. My dad has done 38 years in prison, up until his release on Friday, he was the oldest inmate in the Federal system.

He’s kind of a legend in that light to begin with. He’s certainly a well loved father in our family and to have him home and to believe that he was able to walk out… is just amazing.

We feel so terrific, so blessed, I can’t describe it."

Roo asked Michael, "Will you have a party for you dad or will he just slip in to mainstream life?"

Yeah he wants it to be kinda quiet in the beginning. He is 100 years old, it is a bit overwhelming. I’m sure people will be coming over… Some of his friends who are still left and certainly his family members.

He’s all about his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he’s got them both, he’s thrilled with that.

Ditts reminisced about the last time they interviewed Michael. "One of the most frightening stories you’ve ever told us, was the fact that there was a time where you thought your own father had a contract out on your life. Does that still go through your mind right now?"

It’s always a tough question, only because people can’t understand my answer, in many ways. I don’t think about it anymore. By the way, he didn’t order the contract, he did go along with it. I was in a major part of that life also, I understood my dad’s mentality, even though I didn’t agree with it, and I knew he still loved me. And unfortunately that was a decision he made.

We didn’t speak for 10 years after that, but then we kinda patched things up. He’s been dad ever since. To make a long story short, I’ve forgiven him, I love him, it’s father and son, what can I say?
