Triple M's Kerry O'Keefe believes Australia need to play 'ugly' much like the 2013/14 Ashes series to make the English as uncomfortable as possible.

O'Keefe told Triple M's Grill Team Australia need to replicate Mitchell Johnson's approach during the clean sweep series in 2013/14.

"The reason we won in 13/14 was Mitchell Johnson really put it to them and they didn't enjoy the tour," O'Keefe said. Listen to the full audio below.

"People like (Jonathan) Trott, (Graeme) Swan, Jimmy Anderson and Kevin Pietersen, they made Test cricket ugly for them.

"That's what Starc and company will be trying to do to (Alastair) Cook, (Joe) Root and Anderson again, to make their tour unenjoyable. They're going to do that by playing very physically.

"There's going to be a lot of chin music and a lot of chirp. To put England off their game the crowds will be against them and the players themselves.

"Australia really only wins when it plays right on the line between right and wrong, I think they'll play a long that line this series."
