He may bring the laughs in The Grill Team studio every morning but our own Gus Worland has been quietly working away on a fantastic cause behind-the-scenes.

Gussy today shared the news that his men's mental health initiative Gotcha4Life will help fund 20 scholarships for men to become Telephone Crisis Supporters for Lifeline Australia.

Speaking on Wednesday's show, Gus explained that since starting Gotcha4Life after filming his documentary series Man Up last year, they had been looking for ways to support men around Australia.

"An area they need specific help... is men answering the phones when people ring up," Gus explained on Triple M 104.9. "A lot of blokes ring up, they get a girl on the line and they hang up straight away.

"They want to talk to blokes."

The result is the newly created scholarships, which will fully pay for 20 men's training to join Lifeline Australia as Crisis Supporters.

"While our extensive training program produces some of the most highly-skilled Crisis Supporters in the world, we also know that cost can be a barrier for some people," Lifeline Australia CEO Bob Gilkes said.

"So this is an exciting opportunity for men out there to learn to better support mates and loved ones struggling with life's challenges, to give back to the community and get a nationally recognised qualification in the process.

"Much like the rural fire services or surf-lifesaving clubs, Lifeline Crisis Supporters are part of our country's rich history of volunteering - it's about Australians helping out fellow Australians in their time of need.

"If you've ever thought about getting involved, this is the perfect opportunity. You might just help save a life."
