While many may have heard the name Dally Messenger, not everyone will realise just how much of an impact he had on rugby league.
Herbert Henry "Dally" Messenger - born in Balmain in 1883 - was one of the first rugby players in Australasia, switching from union to league when it was first established in 1907.
Without him, Matty says, NRL may not be the game it is today.
