Reforms to the Parole System

"People Are Losing Confidence In The Criminal Justice System... And I Need It To Stop"

Our Parole system is under fire, Man Monis and the Melbourne attacker both should have been behind bars.

NSW Minister for Counter-Terrorism, Corrections, and Veterans Affairs, David Elliot joined The Grill Team to talk about sweeping changes that he is making to the system in efforts to avoid repeat incidents.

When asked why our Parole system is flawed Elliot responded

"It's been a victim of political influence... People are losing confidence in the criminal justice system and I need it to stop."

"Part of the reforms we are announcing is that an offenders radicalisation will be a compulsory consideration from the parole authority. We just can't take this risk anymore." said Elliot

"I'm very disappointed to hear the commentary out of Victoria, I think they are going to let the side down. A bloke can get an easy parole hearing in one jurisdiction and quite easily jump over a state border."
