Before the announcement was official, newly appointed ARLC Chairman Peter Beatie was already signalling his intent on expanding the game within his tenure.
Expansion talks were only heightened during the Rugby League World Cup when Fiji, Tonga and PNG excelled both on and off the field leading to many suggestions a 'Pacific Island' team could be a strong candidate for expansion into the NRL.
