Triple M's The Hot Breakfast received an unprecedented number of calls this morning asking for the best vantage point to see the generator convoy!

Known as the 'Superload', theĀ 108m convoy bound for Germany is set to hit Melbourne's roads tonight.

Roads and bridges have been tested to make sure they can withstand the weight of the giant generator - and VicRoads are expecting "significant" delays along its route.

Here are the official details for the best viewing areas:

Tonight

Lonsdale Street, Dandenong.

Our recommendation if you are driving is to park in side streets or public car parks and walk out to the service lanes.

Pedestrians should stay off the main carriageway and obey all road rules as usual.

Although we can't guarantee an arrival time, we expect the load will arrive there some time between 10pm and midnight

Saturday Night

North Rd, Bentleigh & Ormond.

Don't rely on being able to head west along North Road to reach the viewing areas - you might find you get stuck behind the load!

We recommend that you park in side streets or at public car parks, or the Duncan McKinnon Reserve car park.

Our top tips are the Bentleigh and Ormond shopping areas. Where the road is divided, you could safely park on the north side in the kerbside lane, obeying normal parking signs.

We don't recommend this for sections that are not divided.

Please stay off the main carriageway and obey all road rules as usual.

Although we can't guarantee an arrival time, we expect the load will pass through the area there some time between 9:30pm and 11:30pm.
