WWE superstar Bobby Lashley has told Triple M about the incredible story that led to his amateur wrestling career and Olympic pursuit coming to an end, which kickstarted his WWE career.

BOBBY LASHLEY'S STORY:

Lashley - who's in Australia to compete at WWE's Super Show Down at the MCG alongside John Cena - was a top amateur wrestler and was looking to compete in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as a wrestler.

When a trip to the bank went horribly wrong.

"It was kind of a hiccup, I guess you would say," he explained on Triple M's Hot Breakfast.

"I wrestled all my life, amateur wrestled all my life.

"It was the year before the Olympics. I went to a bank, got robbed and I actually got shot at."

He didn't wear a bullet, but diving out of the way caused him to completely wreck his knee, which cost him a spot at the Olympics before the WWE came calling.

“I spent several months laying on the couch with the leg brace on and just questioning ‘what next?’" he told Triple M.

“My knee basically almost just exploded…it was a big mess.”
