Shane Warne had an absolute day out at the Melbourne Cup yesterday after backing his mate Lloyd William’s Rekindling and landing the trifecta.

Warnie had two $250 each-way bets on the first two past the post, and a $500 six-horse box trifecta that returned 416.67 per cent of the final dividend.

The win worked out to be more than $20,000 - however the King of Spin initially thought it was much, much more.

Eddie McGuire says he caught up with Warnie in the moments after the Melbourne Cup.

“I went down to say hello and he bobs out with his son Jackson and he said ‘Yeah, I’ve backed it (Rekindling), I’ve backed the one that was second as well,” Eddie said on the Hot Breakfast this morning.

Warnie went into tell Eddie he had the trifecta as well for “500 bucks”.

“I said ‘What?… That’s 500 x $3000, that’s $1.5-million’," Eddie said on Triple M.

“He’s standing there going 'Is it $750,000 or $1.5 (Million)?',”

“We were then able to work it through - he actually had invested $500 and had about 6 or 7 horses so therefore he got it 3-times.

“All up he’s got the $20,000 but it started out at $1.5-million!”
