Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has strongly dismissed suggestions that 'suspended' Magpie Jordan De Goey should be rushed back into the side.

Speaking on The Hot Breakfast, Ed disagreed with Fox Footy's David King; who claimed Collingwood should bite the bullet and end the club-imposed ban following De Goey's starring performance in the VFL.

"It’s an interesting question - if you let them off early does that undermine the whole culture of the club going forward?" asked Triple M's Luke Darcy.

"Do you reckon that was the decision that was made at the West Coast Eagles 10 years ago? 'No, no, they’re playing well. We’ve got a Grand Final to win. Just do it'," Eddie responded.

"Do you reckon we’d like to re-visit how we were handling things at the West Coast Eagles in those days?"

"David King - he’s a great bloke, a great colleague and a great friend of mine. He played in a different era in a team where it didn’t matter what you did on the weekend; as long as you got a kick."

"It didn’t end that well either."

"So I understand exactly what they’re saying. No one’s under more pressure than me or Nathan Buckley to try and get a win at Collingwood."

"I was down there all day yesterday - I won’t sleep for another 2 days after all the coffees I’ve had (at football meetings)."

"But you know what, one thing you don’t give up is your principles."

McGuire also stood by the ban since it was a decision made by the playing group.

"That’s their rules," he said.

"If you give the players the line to set the standards and then you wobble because it’s convenient… well that flies in the face in a lot of the hard line of football."

"It doesn’t have to be a conversation. A decision was made and that’s it. If you do that - what do you stand for? Does any agreement matter - does anything matter?"

McGuire agreed that De Goey was in good form, and said that he was doing really well with club standards since the infamous incident involving his broken hand.
