This morning on The Hot Breakfast, Eddie recounted the day he accidentally broke a huge story about the VFL TV rights.

Casting his mind back to the 1980s, McGuire told the story of heading to VFL House in Jolimont for an interview.

"I asked 'can I get something photocopied' and they told me 'yeah, just use the photocopier in the media room there'", Eddie said.

"So I walked into the media room and I open the photocopier and there's a single sheet of paper on top that has the bids for all the television rights."

Eddie explained the significance of the story with an unknown bidder making a long-term bid for the rights that essentially "saved football" back in the day.

"I've walked out with this thing - I knew what I had but I didn't know what I had until I actually found someone who could tell me what it was!" Ed laughed.

"Then later that night I had this massive story."
