Herald Sun reporter Scott Gullan published an unusual “whisper” in this morning’s paper.

It caught the attention of Luke Darcy and the Triple M Hot Breakfast team who asked the audience who it could be...

All signs quickly pointed towards East Brighton Vampires coach Scott Watters who was happy to have a chat about the rumour…

“I coach under 9 and under 11s and co-coach with Trent Dennis-Lane with the Under 13s,” Watters told Eddie, Mick and Darce.

“We start with the under 9s - Under 9s they are in zones as we know, and what I picked up very early on is they have an appetite to learn,” he said.

“As they move through to Under 11s - which is the first year with no zones. We certainly don’t flood the backline that would go against actually kids learning the games.”

“But I make no apologies for teaching kids how to actually hold their position in defence.

“We’ll (also) have a midfield sweeper that will hold a little bit off the ball.

“You have to (teach the kids how to play) otherwise you end up with 18 players around the ball and it doesn’t even resemble footy”

“The results and winning is irrelevant in junior footy. It’s actually about teaching the kids and making sure they come back every training session inspired to learn.”
