Geelong skipper appeared on the Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire this morning and dropped some news that left Ed a bit flat.

Selwood thought that his number was most likely going to be read out by Collingwood on draft night in 2006, but the Cats ended up snaffling him a pick ahead of the Pies.

“To be honest I thought I was gonna be a number eight (the Pies’ pick in the draft) down to Collingwood,” Selwood said.

“But I was lucky that my Cats decided to pick me the one earlier.”

Geelong grabbed Selwood - who grew up supporting the Cats - with pick seven in the 2006 draft, and he’s gone on to play 249 games, win the Rising Star, play in three flags and captain the side.

He will become the longest serving Cats skipper ever in round four this year.
