Triple M's Eddie McGuire has proposed his idea for a State of Origin-esque football carnival.

Following the success of rugby league's State of Origin, which saw over 87,000 people flock to the MCG for game one, the idea to relive it for Aussie rules has also returned.

It prompted Eddie to come up with a great idea as to how he'd structure it.

“What I’d love to see happen is this,” he said.

"You do under it under the auspices of the Australian football council, not the AFL. So you break it away from the AFL, and there is a commercial reason for this, because you can sell the rights separately. And you have a bidding war.

"Pre-season, every three years...a massive carnival of football."
