In a move that took everyone by surprise Eddie McGuire confirmed on Friday arvo that he’d be returning to host the Footy Show after a 12-year absence.

The move puts Eddie directly up against his fellow Triple M Hot Breakfast co-host Mick Molloy who runs the Front Bar over on Channel 7.

The pair reunited in the Triple M studios for the first time since the announcement.

Luke Darcy was quick to pump up the awkward atmosphere in the studio: “You could cut the air with a knife this morning!”

“How can you do that. How could you after everything we’ve been through just turn like that,” Mick joked to McGuire.

Eddie didn’t miss a beat in response: “This is television pal!”

Despite going head-to-head to Thursday nights, Molloy said they’ll be able to but their TV network rivalries aside.

“It’s going to be fun in here. We’re adults, we’re mates. This has been going on forever.”

Eddie agreed: “I’ve said this all the way along, the more footy shows that we can get on air, the more people that can get a job. The more local production (the better)”

“There is plenty of people who love the Front Bar. there are plenty of people that for 24-years have loved the Footy Show. And I’m hoping that what we’ll do, people will be able to sample both,” Eddie said.

However, Mick didn’t stop there….

“The only thing I’ll say in all seriousness: Get your hands off Andy Maher,” Molloy joked.
