Triple M’s Paul Roos has explained what it’s like having to tell players they’re on the trade table.

ROOS EXPLAINS:

Roos spent a long time as a senior coach at both Sydney and Melbourne, and oversaw a lot of players departing the club as well as being brought in.

He joined Eddie, Wil and Darce on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast live from Hawaii and explained how he took to the process, saying he always wanted to be upfront and honest.

“My process is always to ring the player first,” he said.

“You’d pick up the phone, you’d ring the player, you say ‘look, this is the opportunity that we have, how do you feel about it?’

“In those situations you have to ring the player directly. You have to explain through the situation.”

Roos said this sort of communication is one reason why trade period can drag out.

“These are all the things that happen during trade week…there’s so many things that happen behind the scenes,” he said.

“Everyone’s tradeable. I think if you take that approach (it helps)…they know who’s more tradeable!”
