Thieves have stolen up to $500,000 from parking meters around Melbourne, the Herald Sun revealed this morning.

Meters near the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Shrine of Remembrance were among those to have been emptied of gold coins.

Four men have been arrested who were all maintenance and repair workers for the council-run company Citywide, the paper reports.

Triple M’s Hot Breakfast spoke exclusively with the Private Investigator at the centre of the sting.

“Paul” says the thieves were being monitored for a number of months.

“We’ve had a close watch and Police have determined that there was enough information to warrant their arrest with pending investigations still continuing,” he said on Triple M.
