Triple M’s Damian Barrett believes Rory Sloane needs to end speculation about his future and say he is not making a decision until the end of the year.

Sloane is out of contract at the end of the year, and already talk has begun about where the Adelaide star may play football beyond 2018.

Barrett believes Sloane won’t handle the contract speculation like Dustin Martin did last year - and shouldn’t.

Listen to the audio:

"If you look back at the way Dustin Martin did it last year, it was high risk strategy,” he told Triple M.

"He came out with an extra two and a half million dollars than what he got offered by Richmond at the start of the year to say.

"Rory Sloane is wired very differently to Dustin Martin, and he’s also got a very different manager.”

Barrett believes Sloane can take the life out of the story by making a statement before the season begins.

"Sloane I think just needs to come out and say 'I am not going to make my decision until the end of the year' and absolutely just stick with that,” he said.

"Therefore the only statement that’s to be made prior to that moment is if he stays. We know what’s going to happen if he makes that statement (during the year).

"I just think it takes all the life out of it as an ongoing issue."
