Rory Sloane believes any criticism of teammate Eddie Betts for his form is "a bit unfair".

LISTEN TO THE AUDIO:

Betts has gone goalless in his first two games for the season, the first time he's gone goalless in back to back AFL games since 2010, when he was at Carlton.

Despite the lean run in front of goal, Sloane told Triple M's Rush Hour with Jars & Louie what Betts was doing was "exactly what we'd expect".

“I think that’s probably a bit unfair on Eddie. I think his game, although he didn’t kick any goals on the weekend, (he) still got plenty of the footy," he told Triple M.

"You watch, he didn’t get beaten in a one on one at all and kept bringing the ball to ground, and Richmond’s defence is one of the best in the competition."

Sloane said Betts' role hasn't changed this season.

"I thought the way Eddie competed down forward, put pressure on and brought the ball to ground is exactly what we’d expect of him. I’m sure goals will follow," he said.

“I thought it’s probably a bit unfair, the scrutiny on Ed."
