Adelaide star Josh Jenkins has backed in end-of-season rule trials, telling Triple M there needs to be a "fully fledged" test of any potential rules that may be introduced next season.

LISTEN TO JENKINS:

The AFL is toying with the idea of trialling new rules in 'dead' games that have no impact on finals over the remaining few weeks of the season.

Jenkins admitted his preference would be to test any new rules in the state league for a year, but the urgency behind the AFL's action means a trial sooner than next pre-season is important.

"I don't even necessarily know what the rules changes are going to be," he told Triple M's Rush Hour with Jars and Louie on Wednesday.

"(But) we need to see them in fully-fledged games.

"I understand there’s some things that make that not ideal, with draft picks and even gambling on games,”

"But the reality is for the good of the game I don’t think we can afford to bring in whatever the rules may be having not tried them properly."

Jenkins said he would "absolutely" take part in a trial game if Adelaide were knocked out of finals contention.

"We’re just part and parcel of AFL footy," he told Triple M Adelaide.

"We aren’t the game, we’re just a part of a game. Every player comes and goes, no one stays around forever, no one’s bigger than the game."
