Port Adelaide forward Charlie Dixon says "no one" knows what players can't and can't do under the rules for bumping.

Dixon was asked about the suspension to his teammate Robbie Gray following a bump on West Coast's Jeremy McGovern on the weekend.

Gray was suspended for one match for rough conduct, a decision he will challenge at the tribunal on Tuesday night.

It's a decision Dixon strongly disagrees with.

LISTEN TO CHARLIE DIXON'S FULL CHAT:

“It’s just one of those things, you know," he told Triple M's Rush Hour with Jars and Louie.

"It wasn’t malice, it wasn’t anything, it was just an accident.

"What’s a player supposed to do? They’re both sort of going at the ball and the ball’s bounced up.

"I was sitting on the bench and looking at it, it looks like Robbie’s tried to take the ball and his arms didn’t raise or anything like that."

Dixon said there is confusion about what the players can do in terms of bumping.

“We don’t know where we stand with it either," he said.

"I get that annoyed with it. It’s a contact sport, we play a contact sport. You’ve got to realise that (it’s a contact sport) and shit happens.

"I don’t even know what the system is, what the rules are, what you can and can’t do.

"No one does. I don’t really know. To be honest, I don’t think it was anything."
