#FreeKickHawthorn is apparently back in full effect for season 2017.

Livewire Hawk Paul Puopolo managed to score himself a dodgy one, getting paid a hands in the back free when he looked all the world like he should have been done for holding the footy against Adelaide at the MCG.

It was reminiscent of a free kick he got against Adelaide at the G last year that ended in him kicking the game winning goal.

Paul Roos on TV was fuming, saying it was “as bad of a decision as you will ever see in a game of footy.

The Triple M commentators were equally disgusted.

“That’s a shocker. That is an absolute shocker of a decision,” Wayne Carey said.

“It’s not a free kick. That is actually holding the ball if anything."

On Monday, AFL umpires' coach Hayden Kennedy said:

"This is a really interesting one, if you pretend you're an umpire, what you see is that the tackle is legitimate at the start."

“I don’t think it's holding the ball, what you need to do is understand that the umpire needs to make a decision – I can actually understand that decision” - take a look at the whole video here.

Paul Roos completely disagrees and offloaded to Jars & Louie on The Rush Hour:

“What we need to get from our umpiring department is a clearer picture of what the rules are.”

“Admit your mistakes... If that is not an incorrect decision, I'm even more flabbergasted about umpiring… more than I was before."
