Following the MRP's decision to suspend Patrick Dangerfield for 1 week, all eyes are now on the Cats to see if they will challenge the controversial call.

AFL reporter Matt Thompson has said that the Cats are contacting a QC in the coming hours in relation to the charge, while Triple M's Damian Barrett believes Geelong 'has to appeal'.

Barrett agreed with the MRP's verdict on the one-week suspension, but would expect the Brownlow medallist to challenge the call given what is on the line.

"I think he should," Barrett said on The Rush Hour.

"But, as you know, the problem in so doing is it will be bumped up to 2 weeks should they fail."

Geelong play huge games in the next two weeks against Sydney and Richmond - making the stakes extremely high should they fail to get him off the charge.

"He didn't know the ball had been released and he didn't drive him into the ground - I'm sure Geelong will have to appeal it," Bill Brownless agreed.
