Triple M's Joey Montagna has backed in young St Kilda forward Josh Battle, saying he would offer something positive for St Kilda in the wake of their recent selection news.

News has surfaced suggesting key forward Josh Bruce is set to be axed from the side to take on Geelong after four goals in three games.

Joey joined Triple M's Rush Hour and agreed the Saints needed to shake things up, backing in Battle to help out their forward line if he comes in.

“I heard ‘Richo' say they do need to shake it up a little bit. They do need to do something different,” he said on Thursday.

"Hopefully young Josh Battle gets a game, because he is one kid who gets on his bike and presents. I like the way he goes about it, so he might come in.

"Mav Weller I think is available, might be a chance to play. They’re going to have to shake it up and try something different."

Joey believes there is a disconnect between the midfielders and forwards in moving the ball, believing they need more confidence.

“The chemistry’s missing at the moment between the midfielders and forwards,” he said.

"St Kilda's having the second or third most short kicks and uncontested marks in the comp. They're just not going forward, they're 14th for inside 50s.

“They’re just mucking around the footy too much and not being direct."
