Collingwood big man Mason Cox has explained his goal celebrations against Melbourne were inspired by a bit of trash talk from the Dees' defenders.

Cox racked up 16 disposals and kicked five goals to take home the Neale Daniher Trophy in the Pies' 42-point win, with a few snags celebrated by a few in-your-face celebrations.

He joined Triple M's Rush Hour with JB and Billy and explained it was inspired by his opposition.

"Whenever people talk a bit to you, you gotta get back to them after you do something well," he said.

"You get all kinds of stuff...I find it kind of funny, to be honest! It’s a bit of a compliment at the same time."
