Kalyn Ponga sent social media into a storm when he uploaded a photo, backflipping off a roof into a pool.

He certainly made some Knights fans 'nervous', who thought it might be better to wrap their star recruit in cotton wool until Round 1.

However, one very important 'Novocastrian' wasn't worried at all.

"If that's the worst thing he does in his career, I think we haven't got to much to worry about," Knights coach Nathan Brown told The Rush Hour with MG.

"I never done one because I couldn't MG, so that was my problem ... I couldn't do it," Brown laughed.

"It's the way of the world we live in today and at the end of the day I don't think he's done a drastic thing wrong."

Season 2018 is set to be a big one for the Knights, especially after recruiting the likes of Ponga and Mitchell Pearce, expectations are through the roof for a club who finished with the wooden spoon three seasons in a row.

"There's obviously a lot of expectation, a lot more than before and we don't want people to get too far ahead of themselves," Brown said.

"But also on the other hand we have got much bigger expectations ourselves as well, so everyone excited.

"The difference now is we have got some experienced players who have achieved a lot to help our younger kids.

"For us to compete really well against the top end of town, we certainly need not only our new recruits to play well, but our younger guys who have been playing for a year or two now to step up a bit higher as well."

The Knights open their season at home against the Manly Sea Eagles, on Friday March 9 with kick-off set for 6pm
