Triple M's Damian Barrett believes GWS - partly by design - has a "horrendous" situation with their salary cap.
BARRETT'S REPORT:
Barrett told Triple M's Saturday Rub he believes GWS has overcommitted on contracts by a significant amount of money.
He explained that was because GWS had the aim of winning a flag between 2016 and 2018.
"They need to clear stuff out. It's a massive amount of money," he said.
"It's by design to a point. Dave Matthews, who's the CEO, is a smart man. But they were thinking...they were going to be winning premierships in 2016, 2017 and 2018. That was their window.
"They loaded up and they were going to deal with the fallout to that beyond it, hopefully in their eyes with the luxury of having won a flag in that time frame."
