Carlton legend Stephen Kernahan has explained what was really going on behind the footage of his famous rendition of Stand By Your Man.

STICKS EXPLAINS:

Kernahan joined Triple M's Saturday Rub for another edition of Footy Mythbusters...where Billy Brownless surprised him with a song.

Sticks' own song.

"Now Sticks, tell us all what happened there!" he laughed.

So Sticks told the brilliant yarn of how the song went down and how it came about.

"I'm not a man who wastes my liquor," he said.

"It was a sad day and I've paid a heavy price for it for 31 years."

He said the origins of the performance stemmed from trying to raise money for a footy trip once upon a time.

"We did it at the reviews, we had reviews to raise money for the footy trip and I was thinking what can I do really quickly and really badly," he laughed.

"It was that bad, people had a bit of a laugh."
