After more than 12 months of planning, Bundbury's 'Tiny Houses Project' is full steam ahead.

The project was part of an election commitment Member for Bunbury, Don Punch made to the community.

It will become a state-first trial to combat homelessness in the area with an innovative and cost effective approach.

Mr Punch says this initiative stemmed from many locals expressing their fear of living on the streets.

'Concerns about homelessness and housing are among the issues raised most frequently with me."

- Don Punch MLA, Member for Bunbury

Three 30 square-metre houses will be built on land in Plaza Street, Bunbury.

With the collaboration of local agencies, they'll be designed to fit a single person for up to 12 months at a time.

The small dwellings will include a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom facilities.

"Not only will it provide housing for people in need - it will give Bunbury the opportunity to explore the possibilities of tiny housing as a way to provide affordable housing into the future"

- Mr Punch says.

Support service, AccordWest, is one organisation working hard on the Tiny Houses Project and has just opened the new BunYAP House facility.

It's able to hold up to six young people going through severe financial crisis at any one time.

"I was really impressed with the standard of this facility when I toured it with Minister for Community Services, Simone McGurk during the official opening"

- Mr Punch says.

Accordwest is seeking public comment to direct their final planning of the Tiny Houses Project.
